Become a Viking this February

The annual JORVIK Viking Festival is a huge city-wide celebration of York’s rich Norse heritage. It is recognised as the largest Viking festival in Europe and includes a host of exciting events on the programme including living history encampments, markets and workshops. We’ve put together a list of the top attractions to see across the festival.

Annual Strongest Viking Competition 

Join in the activities which include hammer-holding, leg-wrestling, hand to hand combat and more to show yourself as the strongest Viking!

Tablet Weaving Workshop  

Discover the incredible skill in Viking weaving. These sessions are for those of all abilities and sessions must be pre-booked.

Little Diggers, Gudrid’s Viking Voyages  

Little Diggers is a series of fun-filled activities for those aged 3-5 to discover the places Vikings would have travelled to and the things they would have brought with them. Discover the tales of their voyages in the special edition of Little Diggers.

Birds of Prey at Barley Hall  

Meet and greet some amazing birds of prey with the assistance of trained staff. The incredible medieval townhouse of Barley Hall (also a fascinating lens to the past) will showcase these amazing creatures and tell the stories of their uses throughout Viking mythology.
